St. George’s Episcopal Church will host internationally known artist Jonathan Randall Grant March 3 – 5, 2023 for a Lenten Weekend Program. The weekend is entitled “Becoming Creative Community” and explores creating as a response to God’s action in our lives. All faiths, traditions, and walks of life are invited to curate a space that is Open to All in Love and Open to All for art.
Lenten Weekend is an annual event at St. George’s at the beginning of Lent, the forty-day season of spiritual renewal preceding Easter. The weekend of programming considers how to engage creativity as individuals and as a church community. No prior experience or proficiency with art or spirituality is required to participate. The weekend culminates into a panel discussion, moderated by Rev. William S. Dickinson – Associate Rector of St. George’s. Panelists include Jonathan Randall Grant and local arts leaders Dena Jennings and Gabriel Pons.
Keynote speaker Jonathan Randall Grant is a painter from Mishawaka, Indiana. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Asbury College after studies in History, Art History, and Archaeology. He served for 10 years as the artist-in-residence at The American Church in Paris, while also directing, styling, and writing for magazines and brands around the world. Grant now lives in Chicago. His work explores the intersection of the natural and the sacred worlds and explores how rudimentary symbols can be employed to evoke complex spiritual concepts.
